Reflection Paper on One of HUMSS’ Subjects

Out of all the HUMSS-related subjects I encountered in UST-SHS, the most unforgettable was “Trends, Network and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century”. I don’t want to sound exaggerated or outright lie, but I felt connected to one of its topics, which was Intuitive Thinking . Basically, instead of using logic and rationality to explain certain events, situations, scenarios, they use their senses and inner understanding. There are 6 Activities that Intuitive thinkers do, which are: 1) Listening to an inner voice, 2) Taking time to be alone and to reflect, 3) Listening to their bodies, 4) Observing everything, 5) Paying attention to their dreams, and 6) Connecting deeply with others and staying in a positive mood. All of those are pretty self-explanatory, especially for an introvert like me, but I’d like to give special attention to each and every one of them. Firstly, there were days where objective thinking did not provide the answer I was looking for, and that’s when intuition...

An Amateur Film Critique of Pan's Labyrinth

Plot Summary The film centers around a young girl named Ofelia who’s considered to be the princess of the underworld. Her main objective is to complete the three tasks given to her by a Faun. Those three tasks will serve as a test of character and ritual initiation to prove that a) she has not become mortal and b) she may be worthy and part of the underworld with her parents. The first task is to repossess a key from a toad inside an ancient fig tree. The second task is to bring back the dagger [from the Pale Man] to the Faun. The third task is to bring her baby brother to the labyrinth at night during the full moon. In the process of finishing these tasks, Ofelia deals with three things: 1) reality of mortality, 2) the absurdity of war, and 3) the meaning of self-sacrifice. Film Analysis Several images posed as symbolisms that needed to be tackled in a psychological and political perspective, those being: placing the eye back into its socket (totem) and the magical insect/fai...

His intention was to help those in need, and my conscience understood that; on the other hand, my wallet didn’t seem too pleased with the idea. I, being a graduating SHS (Senior High School) student who wants to pass, unhesitatingly complied. During February 15, 2018, I had bought three items: 1) juice, 2) rings, and a 3) peanut butter palaman. They were all locally produced, perhaps made by indigenous people, or just independent sellers. To begin with, I’ll start my review on the juice. I bought an organic sugarcane juice from Deli Cane for only PHP50. Now, I bought this because at ...
