Reflection Paper on One of HUMSS’ Subjects
Out of all the HUMSS-related subjects I encountered in UST-SHS, the most unforgettable was “Trends, Network and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century”. I don’t want to sound exaggerated or outright lie, but I felt connected to one of its topics, which was Intuitive Thinking.
Basically, instead of using logic and rationality to explain certain events, situations, scenarios, they use their senses and inner understanding. There are 6 Activities that Intuitive thinkers do, which are: 1) Listening to an inner voice, 2) Taking time to be alone and to reflect, 3) Listening to their bodies, 4) Observing everything, 5) Paying attention to their dreams, and 6) Connecting deeply with others and staying in a positive mood.
All of those are pretty self-explanatory, especially for an introvert like me, but I’d like to give special attention to each and every one of them. Firstly, there were days where objective thinking did not provide the answer I was looking for, and that’s when intuition stepped and subconsciously made me know what the right decision to choose was. Secondly, I work alone and take quick meditation breaks to achieve my full potential; it clears my mind and helps boost creativity. Thirdly, when something doesn’t feel right and I cannot give a sensible answer, I turn to my gut feeling; usually, they’re correct and they protect me from making dangerous decisions. Fourthly, THIS I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH, my keen observation to everything has been the foundation of my passion in psychology. I felt that this alone had the biggest impact on my life because it sparked my interests and helped me handle different situations in life, whether it is social interaction, business, etc. Fifthly, in connection to my passion, my dream is to understand more about dreams [through cognitive neuroscience]. The idea is, through these subjects, it becomes far more scientific (rather than using consciousness as a topic from Philosophy class). In line with this, some believe that dreams bridge the gap of the consciousness and the unconsciousness; hence, we are able to capture ideas on how to live our lives. I think that makes sense; my theory is, dreams are what control our actions in real life. Therefore, if you can control one’s dreams, you can control their decisions, their life. This sounds suspicious, but perhaps my idea can be used for good? Who knows? Anyways, lastly, because of my keen observation, I can connect to people on a deeper level, and I can read the context of their words, feelings, and actions.
To summarize, the 6 activities that Intuitive Thinkers do described my whole attitude as a person. It did not only point out that I’m illogical, but also an aspiring diabolical psycho(logist). Kidding aside, it was the foundation of my passion, and that’s how important it will ever be in my life. If that alone doesn’t support my statement that “Trends, Network and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century” is the most important subject for me, then I don’t know what will.
